Role Overview:
The Apple Corps Experience Leaders are the backbone of the Houston Food Bank’s volunteer workforce. These dedicated individuals receive comprehensive training and coaching to become certified project experts, leading the production-level aspects of our operations. By committing to a minimum of six months, Experience Leaders ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of our food distribution efforts, playing a critical role in our mission to fight hunger in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision:
Oversee and guide volunteer teams during food sorting, packing, and distribution activities.
Ensure that all tasks are performed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with Houston Food Bank standards.
Provide support and direction to volunteers, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Training and Certification:
Participate in comprehensive training programs and coursework designed to develop expertise in specific project areas.
Complete certification processes to become recognized as a project expert within the organization.
Stay updated on best practices and procedures, ensuring all operations meet safety and quality standards.
Project Management:
Manage the logistics and workflow of production-level activities, from receiving donations to preparing them for distribution.
Monitor inventory levels, track project progress, and report on outcomes to ensure goals are met.
Identify and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in food bank operations.
Community Engagement:
Serve as an ambassador for the Houston Food Bank, promoting its mission and encouraging community involvement.
Educate volunteers about the impact of their work and the importance of their contributions.
Build and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, staff, and community partners.
Commitment:
Commit to a minimum of six months, providing consistency and reliability to the Houston Food Bank’s operations.
Dedicate time to training, coursework, and certification processes, as well as regular volunteer shifts.
Qualifications:

Customer Service Lead for ACLs - Tue, Thurs & Sat. (CRC)

Customer Service Lead for the Community Resource Center (CRC)
Shifts: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm The expectation of commitment for this dedicated space is to
be scheduled and accountable for at least 2 shifts per month please.
General Tasks:
● Welcome regular shift volunteers in the lobby and walk back to the project area. Always
remind them for safety purposes no cell phones or drinks while walking in the warehouse.
Introduce yourself, give the volunteers a brief introduction on what activities will be
happening throughout the shift and specific instructions on their tasks.
● Check and log refrigerator temperatures AM.
● Ensure shelves and cooling units are stocked for the neighbors to shop. If items are
missing, lead traditional volunteers to complete this task.
● Ensure the area is clean, organized and welcoming to provide the best experience for
neighbors shopping.
● Assign volunteers to specific tasks for the neighbors shopping experience process and
support as needed. ● Monitor the distributions while engaging with neighbors to strengthen relationships,
capture feedback and share ways to improve our process.
● Coordinate alternating 15 min. breaks for the volunteers.
● Move the identified pallets in/out the CRC space as needed for project builds.
● Ensure all trash and cardboard is taken to the back dock and recorded in the system.
● Thank the volunteers, provide impact numbers for the shift, remind them how wonderful
they are for donating their time and walk them back to the lobby.
● Delegate tasks on cleaning log and ensure log is signed.
● Ensure closing log is completed and signed.
● Set the iPad back to charge
