Who We Are

The Houston Food Bank's Nutrition Education & Health Promotion department addresses food insecurity and hunger by using the United States Department of Agriculture materials and guidelines to achieve health promoting goals. In addition, the Nutrition Education & Health Promotion team is committed to providing a weight-inclusive, gentle nutrition approach. We aim to empower individuals with skills to improve their health and move toward more secure lives. The Nutrition Education & Health Promotion team provides in-person and virtual classes tailored to the needs of a variety of groups. Our classes revolve around the recommendations of United States Department of Agriculture MyPlate and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. HFB recruits and trains registered dietitians, nutritionists, chefs, dietetic interns and nutrition students to assist with courses. Most classes feature a nutrition discussion followed by a cooking component highlighting the material of the class.
